Biography
Biography
b. 1994 Lagos, Nigeria Lives and works in Lagos, Nigeria Oluwaseyi Akinwumi, stylistically known as Seyi Akinwumi, is a Lagos-based Nigerian visual artist whose work delves into themes of vulnerability, self-expression, and cyclical existence. With a background in supply chain and logistics management from the UK, she returned to Nigeria and nurtured her creative practice alongside other professions before fully embracing studio art in 2020. Akinwumi’s signature medium is paper, which she transforms with Indian ink, watercolour, charcoal, collage, crayons, and acrylics, celebrating the fluidity and unpredictability of her materials. Her layered compositions explore intimate memories, emotional landscapes, and social nuances drawn from her immediate environment. Under the guiding principle that existence is non-linear and constantly shifting, her work bridges abstraction and expressionism, often evoking an intimate, contemplative resonance.
