b. 1970, Udomi-Uwessan, Edo State, Nigeria Lives and works in Lagos, Nigeria, and Maryland, USA Victor Ehikhamenor is a Nigerian-American multidisciplinary visual artist, writer, and photographer whose work explores the intersections of African cultural heritage, postcolonial identity, and contemporary Nigerian socio-politics. Drawing from his upbringing in the village of Udomi-Uwessan—an environment rich with traditional craftsmanship and spiritual practices—Ehikhamenor's art reflects a deep engagement with his Edo roots, including influences from local cloth weaving, blacksmithing, and religious iconography. His artistic practice encompasses painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, and installation. Central to his work is the use of intricate patterns and symbols derived from both Edo traditional religion and Catholicism, creating immersive experiences that invite reflection on cultural dualities and historical narratives. Ehikhamenor's work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions worldwide, including the Venice Biennale in 2017, where he represented Nigeria.
