Biography
Biography
b. 1961, Nigeria Lives and works in Lagos and Port Harcourt, Nigeria Edosa Ogiugo is a Nigerian contemporary artist whose practice spans over three decades. Born into an artistic family, Ogiugo began drawing from a young age and gradually developed his purpose as a fine artist. He holds a Higher National Diploma in Fine Arts and Painting, and a National Diploma in General Arts from Yaba College of Technology, Lagos. His multifaceted career has included roles in education, advertising, and media production—working as a secondary school art teacher, illustrator, creative director, lecturer, and mentor. A full-time studio artist since 1992, Ogiugo maintains studios in both Lagos and Port Harcourt. Ogiugo’s work is rooted in a fascination with movement and grace, often depicting female dancers from various Nigerian ethnic groups and horses. He draws inspiration from the elegance and dedication seen in Edgar Degas’ ballerinas and the thematic consistency of Claude Monet’s water lilies. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions, a solo exhibition titled First Step (1995), and an international residency at the London Fine Art Studio, Lavender Hill. His commissioned works are held in both public and private collections across the globe. A committed advocate for the arts, Ogiugo was the inaugural president of the Guild of Professional Fine Artists of Nigeria (2008–2012), and is a member of the Fine Art Trade Guild (UK) and the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA). He remains actively involved in mentoring young artists, believing “it’s the only way to multiply values, give back organically, and yield your talents in ways not imagined.
